“Melting Reality” is an AR Artwork that offers an immersive experience and allows a unique User Interaction that is focused on the senses of touch, vision and hearing. Augumented Reality can “melt” the virtual world with our reality, however the ambigous title also represents the core idea of Melting Reality: The Melting Ice in the Arctic. This current global issue is rarely adressed even thought it is estimated, that the arctic could be ice free by summer 2040 (according to WWF). The consequences are serious, as it causes the seal levels to rise which leads to floodings and loss of habitats for humans and animals. Through this artwork, the user can learn more about this environmental problem by experiencing Melting Reality through a digital device and take part in a quiz about the melting arctic to deepen knowledge and offer own suggestions regarding the environmental topic as well as the artwork itself.
